FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER
Step One: Review the recruitment guide to ensure you meet the qualifications and understand the process
Step Two: Book your appointment with Firefighter Services of Ontario. Deadline to book your appointment is 4:00PM EST on September 6, 2024. Book all tests in one day. You will receive a confirmation email with details of your appointment once your payment is processed. Testing must be completed by September 22, 2024. Appointments are first come, first serve.
Step Three: Complete the Emotional Stability and Resiliency Assessment. This assessment is completed online and you will receive information after booking your appointment. Deadline to complete the ESR is 4:00PM on September 13, 2024.
Step Four: Bring the documents listed in the application check list to your FSO appointment. Package will be collected upon successful completion of required tests. Deadline to submit application package is 11:59PM EST on September 22, 2024.
Already completed FSO Testing?
Candidates who successfully completed the core four tests in one day (Clinical, CPAT, Tread Water and Aptitude), on or after September 21, 2023, you would be required to complete:
- Clinical Assessment (if expired, valid for 6 months)
- Medical, Acrophobia, and/or Emotional Stability and Resiliency Assessment (if expired, valid for 1 year)
- Submit your application package to FSO by mail or in-person

You will receive a confirmation email with details of your appointment once your payment is processed. Testing must be completed by April 7, 2024. Appointments are first come, first serve.
Step Four: Complete the Emotional Stability and Resiliency Assessment. This assessment is completed online and you will receive information after booking your appointment. Deadline to complete the ESR is 4:00PM EST on March 15, 2024.
Step Five: Bring the documents listed in the application check list to your FSO appointment. Package will be collected upon successful completion of required tests. Deadline to submit application packages is 11:59PM EST on April 7, 2024.
Already completed FSO Testing?
Candidates who successfully completed the core four tests in one day (Clinical, CPAT, Tread Water and Aptitude), on or after April 7, 2023, you would be required to complete:
- Clinical Assessment (if expired, valid for 6 months)
- Medical, Acrophobia, and/or Emotional Stability and Resiliency Assessment (if expired, valid for 1 year)

Step Five: For those who successfully completed all tests at FSO, candidates are required to apply online using the City of St. Catharines Online Career Application System. Online applications will be accepted beginning Jan. 29, 2024. The application deadline will be Feb. 11, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.

Open Testing Dates: September 21 & 22
Practice Session
– register for any assessments (except Emotional Stability and Resiliency) to measure your current status and determine where improvement is needed for future recruitments.
Pre-Qualify Session
– register for all six tests. Candidates who pass all six tests in one day may pre-qualify for recruitments occurring within 6 months of their appointment.
